Course Objectives

The overall objective of Kinesiology is to provide students with exercises and materials necessary to develop an understanding of the scientific principles surrounding human movement. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in the following areas:

Musculoskeletal Anatomy
Students will become familiar with the anatomy of motion and how it works. Students will be able to identify the structures required to complete various exercise and athletic motions.

Kinesiology Principles

Students will be able to state, explain and apply principles of kinesiology. Students will apply the principles of human motion to analyze a sport or exercise skill of their choice.

Use of Technology
Students will demonstrate the use of technology by incorporating the use of computer software applications into the production of course assignments and the final project. Suggested applications for presenting information for course assignments and the final project might include word processing, drawing software, a spreadsheet or other application to analyze numerical data and electronic mail. Students will also be encouraged to attach a video clip of the motion being analyzed to the course project to the materials submitted electronically for evaluation. Students will also be instructed in the use of other technology-based techniques as needed, such as videotape analysis of motion. In addition the students will use computer based learning materials.

Practical Applications

Students will be required to respond to real-life applications of concepts learned in class and to propose solutions to realistic problems related to understanding the principles of human motion. Additionally, the motion analysis project may include analysis and/or proposal of a solution to a motion related problem in athletics or exercise.
