Course Objectives

  The student completing this course will:

  •  Learn how lifestyle and heredity impacts health and fitness.
  •  Learn the basic principles of wellness and the impact of physical activity on the dimensions of wellness.
  •  Learn the primary adaptations that take place as a result of cardiovascular endurance exercise.
  •  Apply the basic principles of exercise training required to induce cardiovascular adaptations in realistic settings.
  •  Learn the primary muscular fitness adaptations that take place as a result of training.
  •  Apply sound weight loss guidelines using a combination of diet and exercise.
  •  Examine wellness and fitness principles in a variety of physical activity and cultural settings.
  •  Learn the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and diabetes.
  •  Learn exercise guidelines and safety principles for pregnant women, aging people and youth.
  •  Perform risk assessments to screen for cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal impairment, diabetes and cancer.
  •  Learn strategies for behavior change.
