HIS-122 Introduction to World History II

In Introduction to World History II, students will explore the global structures and transnational forces that have shaped history from the time of the Columbian Exchange in 1492 until the present day. Students in this course will examine both the distinctive characteristics of individual societies and the connections that have linked the fortunes of different societies, as well as comparisons of major societies. The course will chronologically highlight the traditions of global regions and their encounters with one another, including the Middle East, Europe, South Asia, East Asia, the Americas. The historical material will enable students to recognize the twin themes of tradition and encounter. Students will engage in comparative analysis of different societies, their religious and cultural traditions, as well as the expanding global trade and technology networks.
